Good News: Charvarius Ward, a former Chiefs cornerback, has retracted his statement against Kansas City

A few years ago, the Kansas City Chiefs lacked the secondary that is now universally regarded as one of the finest in the league. They didn’t have quite the same defence as they do now. But this demonstrates how successfully they have drafted, developed, and signed free players. The Chiefs were bringing out players like Charvarius Ward, Rashad Fenton, and Mike Hughes.

No disrespect to those players, but they were subpar in comparison to the Chiefs’ current and previous rosters. Ward was excellent at times, Fenton had his moments, and Mike Hughes earned defensive player of the week once. However, team chemistry changed. The Chiefs allowed Ward to leave for free.

“It is better over here. When questioned about his time in Kansas City, Ward responded, “It’s better over here in every way possible.” Granted, the media coverage for the Super Bowl was intense, so he could have just been talking. Who knows really? But he said that, and that does not make sense. Since his departure, the Chiefs have won two Super Bowls.

Does Ward just like losing?

On Monday, he went on the Up and Adams show and talked to Kay Adams about his comments. After losing to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, it would appear he has changed his mind on his former team and city just a bit.

“Look, I said that, but I love Kansas City,” Ward said. “I had a hell of a time there, to the training staff, the people in the lunch room, the janitors, all of the coaching staff, the players; I made a whole lot of friendships out there. I just said that because that was the first question they asked me when I got on the podium… Kansas City was a great spot for me; I loved it there.”

Ward was good in Kansas City, but there is really no taking back what he said. He said it, and he meant it, or he wouldn’t have added the last part “in every single way.”

But I’m sure Chiefs fans will appreciate his apology.
