The San Francisco 49ers have confirmed that cornerback Isaiah Oliver will be leaving the team. Oliver, who joined the 49ers last season after spending his initial NFL years with the Atlanta Falcons, made notable contributions during the 2023-24 season. He played in all 17 regular-season games, recording 67 tackles, two passes defended, and one interception. However, his role was limited during the postseason, where he saw action only on special teams.
Oliver’s departure is part of a broader set of roster changes for the 49ers this offseason. The team will also bid farewell to edge rusher Chase Young. In response, the 49ers have bolstered their defense by signing Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos. These acquisitions are expected to fill the void left by Young and strengthen the team’s pass-rushing capabilities.
Another significant move involves backup quarterback Sam Darnold, who will be joining the Minnesota Vikings. Darnold’s exit follows the Vikings’ decision to sign him as a replacement for Kirk Cousins.
These changes reflect the 49ers’ strategic adjustments as they prepare for the upcoming season. By addressing critical positions and enhancing their roster depth, the team aims to build on their successes and tackle the challenges of the new NFL season.
