Sad News : Billy Bean, a former player and trailblazing MLB executive, passes away at 60

Billy Bean, a former MLB player, passed away at the age of 60 following a year-long battle with acute myeloid leukaemia.

Bean, who played in the Major League Baseball (MLB) for a portion of six seasons between 1987 and 1995, should not be confused with the Oakland A’s executive, who was also a player. Over 272 games, he batted.226 with five home runs. He primarily played first base and outfield.

Bean gained notoriety for being the second MLB player to openly disclose their sexual orientation. When his MLB career ended in 1999, he took this action. Bean was named an MLB “Ambassador for Inclusion” in 2014. He had most recently been the senior vice president for diversity, equity, and inclusion for the league.

Bean spent time with the Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres during his playing career.

The teams all shared tributes dedicated to their former player
