Notre Dame Fighting Irish head coach Marcus Freeman expressed his heartfelt sadness over the departure of three veteran star players who have officially declared for the NFL Draft. The decision marks a new chapter for these athletes, but it also leaves a significant void in Freeman’s team as they prepare for the next season.
“These players have been leaders, not only on the field but in the locker room and the Notre Dame community,” Freeman said in an emotional statement. “Their impact on this program is immeasurable, and while we are sad to see them go, we are incredibly proud of everything they have accomplished and the legacy they leave behind.”
The departing players, who were integral to Notre Dame’s success this season, include:
1. Isaiah Foskey (Defensive End): Foskey was a dominant force on defense, regularly pressuring quarterbacks and making game-changing plays. His leadership was pivotal to Notre Dame’s defensive strength.
2. Michael Mayer (Tight End): Known for his exceptional hands and ability to make clutch catches, Mayer was a favorite target and one of the most consistent players on offense for the Fighting Irish.
3. Jarrett Patterson (Offensive Line): Patterson’s dominance on the offensive line was crucial in both pass protection and the run game. His departure leaves a big hole in Notre Dame’s front five.
Coach Freeman, who has worked tirelessly to build a competitive program, acknowledged the difficult nature of these transitions but emphasized that this is part of the process of preparing student-athletes for success beyond college football.
“These young men are ready for the next step, and they’ve earned it,” Freeman added. “As hard as it is to say goodbye, we will continue to build on the foundation they helped establish here.”
As Notre Dame moves forward, Freeman will focus on developing the next generation of stars to carry the Fighting Irish legacy, with the knowledge that the contributions of these three players will forever be etched in the program’s history.
