Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 225 pounds, Mendoza had an impressive 2024 season with Cal, completing 68.7% of his passes for 3,004 yards, 16 touchdowns, and only four interceptions over 11 games. His performance earned him recognition as one of the top quarterbacks in the transfer portal, with ESPN ranking him as the No. 4 overall player available.
Mendoza’s decision to join Virginia Tech is particularly noteworthy given his familial connection; his younger brother, Alberto Mendoza, is a freshman quarterback for the Hokies.
