ESPN REPORT: JUST IN ANOTHER TOP TALENTED 5-STAR VETERAN PLAYER OFFICIALLY COMMITS TO VIRGINIA HOKIES FOOTBALL ….

The Virginia Tech Hokies have secured a significant addition to their football program with the commitment of five-star quarterback Fernando Mendoza. Mendoza, who previously played for the California Golden Bears, brings a wealth of experience and talent to the Hokies’ roster.

Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 225 pounds, Mendoza had an impressive 2024 season with Cal, completing 68.7% of his passes for 3,004 yards, 16 touchdowns, and only four interceptions over 11 games. His performance earned him recognition as one of the top quarterbacks in the transfer portal, with ESPN ranking him as the No. 4 overall player available.

Mendoza’s decision to join Virginia Tech is particularly noteworthy given his familial connection; his younger brother, Alberto Mendoza, is a freshman quarterback for the Hokies. This move not only strengthens Virginia Tech’s quarterback position but also adds a familial dynamic to the team’s roster.

With two years of eligibility remaining, Mendoza is expected to compete for the starting quarterback role, aiming to lead the Hokies’ offense in the upcoming season. His experience and proven track record make him a strong candidate to elevate Virginia Tech’s performance on the field.
