In a move that has thrilled Auburn fans, Tigers legend Carnell “Cadillac” Williams is returning to the Plains as the new offensive coordinator for the Auburn Tigers. Williams, one of the most iconic players in Auburn football history, will now take the reins of the offense, marking the next chapter in his storied career with the program.
Williams starred as a running back for Auburn from 2001 to 2004, becoming the school’s all-time leader in rushing touchdowns and earning All-SEC honors. His electrifying play was a cornerstone of Auburn’s undefeated 2004 season, solidifying his place as one of the greatest players in school history.
Since retiring from the NFL, where he played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and St. Louis Rams, Williams has built an impressive coaching résumé. Most recently serving as Auburn’s associate head coach and running backs coach, his leadership and passion for the program have been evident.
“This is home,” Williams said in a statement. “Auburn has given me so much, and I’m honored to give back by leading this offense. We’ve got the talent, the tradition, and the determination to do something special.”
Head coach Hugh Freeze praised the hire, calling Williams “a true Auburn man” and the perfect leader to craft an offense that reflects the Tigers’ identity. “Cadillac’s knowledge of the game, his connection to the players, and his love for this program are unmatched,” Freeze said.
Williams’ appointment has energized the fanbase, who fondly remember his days breaking tackles in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Now, they eagerly await the debut of his offensive vision as he works to guide Auburn back to SEC and national prominence.
