In a surprising blow to the Tennessee Volunteers football program, five key players have announced their decisions to transfer, leaving significant gaps in the roster as the 2025 season approaches. These departures come at a critical time for head coach Josh Heupel, who will now need to replace crucial contributors in both the offense and defense.
The most notable loss is Bryce Thompson, a standout defensive back who had been a leader in Tennessee’s secondary. His absence will create a major hole in the defensive unit. Alongside him, Jalen Walker, a dynamic wide receiver, had been a key target in the Volunteers’ high-powered passing game, making his transfer a blow to their offensive plans.
These players were integral to Tennessee’s success and will be hard to replace, putting additional pressure on the coaching staff to develop new talent.
Despite these setbacks, Coach Heupel is focused on rebuilding and reshaping the roster with incoming recruits and returning players.
