BLACKSBURG, VA – Virginia Tech quarterback Kyron Drones has officially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. The announcement came earlier today, with Drones citing his readiness to compete at the next level after a breakout season with the Hokies.
Drones, who emerged as a star for Virginia Tech in 2024, was the driving force behind the team’s resurgence. He threw for 3,200 yards and 28 touchdowns while rushing for 900 yards and 12 scores, leading the Hokies to an ACC Championship Game appearance and a top-25 finish. His dual-threat ability and leadership were critical to Virginia Tech’s success.
In his statement, Drones expressed his gratitude to the Hokie community. “Virginia Tech has been my home and my family. I’m so thankful for my coaches, teammates, and the fans who have supported me through this journey. It’s been an incredible ride, but I’m ready to take the next step and chase my dream of playing in the NFL.”
NFL scouts have been impressed with Drones’ athleticism, arm strength, and ability to make plays both in the pocket and on the move. Many project him as a mid-to-late first-round pick, highlighting his potential to develop into a starting-caliber quarterback in the league.
Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry praised Drones’ impact, saying, “Kyron has been a true leader and competitor for us. His work ethic and playmaking ability elevated our program, and we’re excited to see him succeed at the next level. He’ll always be a part of the Hokie family.”
