Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day announced today the addition of two key players to the team’s roster, strengthening both the offense and defense for the upcoming season.
On offense, the Buckeyes have secured a commitment from former Purdue tight end Max Klare. Klare, a redshirt sophomore, led Purdue in 2024 with 51 receptions for 685 yards and four touchdowns. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 240 pounds, he was ranked as a four-star prospect and the No. 30 overall player in the transfer portal. Klare chose Ohio State over offers from Michigan, Texas, Texas A&M, and Louisville, citing Coach Day’s reputation for developing players for the NFL as a significant factor in his decision.
Defensively, Ohio State has added former Alabama safety Caleb Downs through the transfer portal. Downs, a highly-touted recruit, brings exceptional talent and experience to the Buckeyes’ secondary. His addition is expected to significantly enhance Ohio State’s defensive backfield, providing versatility and depth.
These strategic acquisitions reflect Coach Day’s commitment to reinforcing the team’s roster as they prepare for the challenges of the upcoming season.
