On February 1, 2025, Penn State Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin announced the signing of two key players to enhance the team’s roster.

The first signee is LaVar Arrington II, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound inside linebacker from Charter Oak High School in California. Arrington II, the son of former Penn State star and NFL Pro Bowler LaVar Arrington, committed to Penn State in July 2024. He turned down offers from Tennessee and UCLA to join the Nittany Lions. In his junior season, he recorded 65 tackles and 12 sacks, showcasing his defensive prowess. His commitment adds depth to Penn State’s linebacker corps and continues the Arrington family’s legacy at the university.

The second signee is Andrew Olesh, a 6-foot-5, 240-pound tight end from St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Olesh was initially committed to Michigan but flipped his commitment to Penn State in December 2024. His decision was influenced by a substantial NIL deal, reportedly up to $12 million, facilitated by efforts from Penn State supporters, including entrepreneur Dave Portnoy and billionaire Jolin Ellison. Olesh is ranked as the No. 2 tight end nationally in the 2025 class and the No. 1 overall prospect in Pennsylvania. His commitment significantly strengthens Penn State’s tight end position and adds a dynamic threat to the offense.

These signings are expected to significantly enhance Penn State’s defensive and offensive capabilities, contributing to the team’s success in the upcoming season.
