Seattle Mariners’ playoff hopes, star outfielder Julio Rodriguez has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a severe right ankle injury. The 22-year-old sensation suffered the injury during an eighth-inning at-bat on Wednesday and underwent further evaluation on Thursday, revealing the extent of the damage.
Rodriguez, who has been a key contributor to the Mariners’ success this season, will undergo surgery to repair the damage and is expected to make a full recovery in time for spring training next year.
“We’re heartbroken for Julio,” said Mariners Manager, Scott Servais. “He’s been an integral part of our team, and his absence will be deeply felt. But we’re confident he’ll come back stronger than ever.
The Mariners, who are currently fighting for a wild-card spot, will have to find a way to fill the void left by Rodriguez’s absence. The team has called up outfielder Taylor Trammell from Triple-A to help bolster the lineup.
Rodriguez’s injury is a devastating blow to the Mariners’ postseason aspirations, but the team remains optimistic about their chances. “We’ll miss Julio, but we have a deep roster and a never-say-die attitude,” said Servais. “We’ll keep fighting and find a way to make it work.
