Appalachian State Mountaineers have officially announced the signing of three experienced players, each coming in with lucrative Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals. These signings mark a new era for the Mountaineers, positioning them to be more competitive in the Sun Belt Conference and on a national level.
The combined NIL value of these players is reportedly in the high six figures, signaling Appalachian State’s growing presence in the NIL space and their ambition to continue elevating their football program.
The three players announced include:
1. Tyler “TJ” Martin (Quarterback) – A veteran quarterback transferring from a prominent ACC school, Martin is known for his strong arm and playmaking ability. His NIL deal, valued at $400,000, is one of the largest in Appalachian State history. Martin is expected to take the helm of the offense and bring leadership and experience to the team.
2. Darius Johnson (Defensive Back) – A standout defensive back coming from the SEC, Johnson has a reputation for being a lockdown corner with elite speed and ball-hawking skills. His NIL deal is reportedly worth $350,000, reflecting his expected impact in the Mountaineers’ secondary. Johnson is expected to immediately boost Appalachian State’s pass defense.
3. Jalen Carter (Wide Receiver) – A highly sought-after wide receiver from the Big Ten, Carter is known for his ability to stretch the field and make explosive plays. His NIL deal is valued at $300,000. Carter is expected to be a go-to target in the Mountaineers’ offense, adding a new dimension of speed and agility.
