According to Nick Wagoner of ESPN, San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner recorded 13 tackles in the team’s 34-31 victory over the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship game on Sunday. With 84 career postseason tackles, he surpasses NaVorro Bowman, who had 78, for the record of most tackles in 49ers playoff history.
NaVorro Bowman was a key member of the 49ers squad that faced Jim Harbaugh from 2011 to 2013, and with a few different bounces of the ball, that team could have easily won a Super Bowl. The fact that Bowman has already been surpassed in postseason tackles by Fred Warner, a mainstay of a highly skilled 49ers defence since they have once again become contenders under Kyle Shanahan’s coaching, is telling.
The 49ers defence was behind 24-7 at the half after their early struggles against the Lions. Warner was the club’s best player on Sunday, based on his 13 tackles, and the 49ers defence provided the squad a chance to rally in the second half.
In an attempt to create lasting memories with the team and win their first Super Bowl together, Warner and the 49ers are working hard. Warner would be among the faces of a 49ers team that would live on in the memory forever, even though it would be the team’s sixth Super Bowl victory. Now he has the postseason stats to support it. For many years, he was among the best linebackers in the league. The icing on the cake would be a Super Bowl ring.
