In a surprising move, Virginia Tech has confirmed the departure of four key players, including starting quarterback Kyron Drones. The announcement has raised eyebrows across the college football landscape as the Hokies face an uncertain future heading into the 2024 season.

Alongside Drones, wide receiver Kaleb Smith, linebacker Alan Tisdale, and defensive back Chamarri Conner will also be leaving the program. Each of these players was integral to Virginia Tech’s performances in recent seasons, making their exits a significant loss for the Hokies’ roster.
While the reasons for their departures have not been fully disclosed, sources suggest a combination of transfer portal moves, NIL-related opportunities, and personal decisions may be at play. Kyron Drones, who had shown promise as the leader of the Hokies’ offense, was expected to be a cornerstone for Virginia Tech moving forward.

Head coach Brent Pry expressed his gratitude for the players’ contributions, saying, “Kyron, Kaleb, Alan, and Chamarri have been outstanding leaders and contributors to this program. While we will miss them, we understand their decisions and wish them the best in their future endeavors. Our focus now is on continuing to build a competitive team for the upcoming season.”
