The Texas Longhorns have secured a major recruiting win by flipping 4-star twin defensive ends Devontae and Deontae Armstrong from their commitment to the Ohio State Buckeyes. This move significantly enhances Texas’ 2025 recruiting class and reinforces the Longhorns’ focus on building a dominant defense for the SEC.
The Armstrong twins are widely regarded as two of the most promising defensive line prospects in the nation. Their combination of athleticism, size, and football IQ makes them highly sought after by top programs across the country.
• Devontae Armstrong: A quick, explosive edge rusher with the ability to disrupt plays in the backfield.
• Deontae Armstrong: A versatile lineman who excels in both pass-rush and run-stopping situations.
Their addition to the Longhorns’ roster is expected to make an immediate impact on the field.
The twins cited the coaching staff, facilities, and opportunity to play in the SEC as primary reasons for their decision to flip to Texas. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski played pivotal roles in securing their commitments.
“Texas has everything we were looking for: a winning culture, elite coaching, and a chance to compete at the highest level,” said Devontae.
“We felt right at home in Austin and can’t wait to bring our game to the Longhorns,” added Deontae.
With the Armstrong twins on board, the Longhorns’ 2025 recruiting class is shaping up to be one of the strongest in the nation. Their presence will bolster Texas’ defensive front as the program continues its transition to the SEC, where depth and physicality are critical.
The loss of the Armstrong twins is a significant blow to Ohio State’s recruiting efforts. Ryan Day and his staff will now need to recalibrate their strategy to fill the void left by the decommitments.
