As of December 24, 2024, there have been no reports indicating that Georgia Southern University head coach Clay Helton has signed a new contract making him the highest-paid coach in NCAA history. In November 2021, Helton was hired as the head coach of the Georgia Southern Eagles football team, signing a five-year contract worth nearly $800,000 per year.
Helton’s contract includes a base salary that starts at $700,000 in the first year and increases by $50,000 each subsequent year.
While Helton’s contract is substantial, it does not surpass the record-breaking deals of other NCAA coaches. For instance, in December 2021, Mario Cristobal signed a 10-year, $80 million contract with the Miami Hurricanes, positioning him among the highest-paid coaches in college football.
Therefore, as of now, Clay Helton’s contract does not make him the highest-paid coach in NCAA history.
