Clemson University has dismissed head football coach Dabo Swinney following increasing pressure from fans dissatisfied with the team’s recent performance. This decision comes after the Tigers failed to secure a spot in the College Football Playoff for the second consecutive year, despite a strong finish to the 2024 season.
Swinney, who took over as head coach in 2008, led Clemson to two national championships and multiple ACC titles. However, the team’s inconsistent performance in recent seasons, including a 9-4 record in 2024, led to growing frustration among the fan base.
In addition to Swinney’s dismissal, the Tigers have made several coaching changes. Defensive coordinator Wes Goodwin has been let go after three seasons in the role. These moves aim to address the team’s defensive struggles and offensive line issues that have hindered performance.
The university’s athletic department has stated that they are committed to rebuilding the football program and restoring it to a competitive level. The search for a new head coach is expected to begin immediately, with the organization looking for a candidate who can bring a fresh perspective and lead the team back to championship contention.
