The Virginia Tech Hokies are facing a major setback ahead of the 2025 season as two of their veteran stars, quarterback Tyler McKenzie and defensive back Jalen Foster, have been ruled out for the year due to injuries. McKenzie suffered a torn ACL during a preseason scrimmage, while Foster underwent surgery for a fractured wrist sustained in offseason workouts.
McKenzie was the leader of the Hokies’ offense, throwing for over 3,200 yards and 27 touchdowns in 2024, while also adding mobility to the backfield. Foster was a standout in the secondary, leading the team in tackles and recording four interceptions last season.
Head Coach Brent Pry addressed the tough news, saying, “Losing Tyler and Jalen is a big challenge for us, but this team is built to persevere. We have players who are ready to step up and fill those roles.”
The Hokies will now look to their depth and younger talent to keep their 2025 ACC aspirations alive as they navigate a competitive conferences late.
