Oklahoma Sooners head coach Brent Venables announced today the signing of two pivotal players, bolstering the team’s roster ahead of the upcoming season. The Sooners have secured commitments from five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi and former Washington State quarterback John Mateer.
Michael Fasusi, a highly-touted offensive tackle from Lewisville High School in Texas, chose Oklahoma over several top programs, including rival Texas. Standing at 6-foot-5, Fasusi is ranked as the No. 27 overall prospect and the No. 5 offensive tackle in the 2025 class. His commitment is expected to elevate the Sooners’ recruiting class into the top 10 nationally.
In addition, the Sooners have added John Mateer, the No. 1 ranked player in the transfer portal. Mateer, who excelled as a dual-threat quarterback at Washington State, amassed over 3,100 passing yards and 29 touchdowns, along with 15 rushing touchdowns last season. His familiarity with offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle’s system is anticipated to facilitate a seamless transition as Oklahoma prepares for a challenging schedule.
These strategic acquisitions underscore Coach Venables’ commitment to strengthening the team’s offense as they gear up for the upcoming season.
