Do You Agree With Him? Justin Steele Is Sure the Cubs Will Make a Comeback

The Chicago Cubs’ Memorial Day 5-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers has resulted in five straight losses. With the two teams that pose the most challenges to the Cubs’ positioning in the NL Central standings playing over this current stretch of the schedule, the offence is still sputtering at the wrong time.

The clubhouse isn’t going to panic just yet, though. The Cubs allowed the game to slip away in the closing moments after LHP Justin Steele pitched seven shutout innings. Nevertheless, the team’s best player is confident that they can turn things around.

“Just keep pitching, just keep giving the team a good chance to win the ballgame, that’s all I can do. We got a good club in there, we know its going to turn around. It’s going to take one inning, or one game where we score 10 runs or something.

“We know what we have in there, you know? Everyone picks each other up. When the starter’s struggling, the relief pitchers pick them up and vice versa. Same thing with the offense and the defense. We’ve got a good team in there and we know we’re going to turn it around.”

Steele was sensational for the Cubs in their loss to the Brewers. The lefty pitched seven innings of shutout ball, allowing only three hits and one walk while striking out eight batters. Steele looked like his normal self, but the offense looked like its normal self of late. The bats are cold, and like Steele inferred, something needs to wake them up.

The team will have another chance to get back in the win column on Tuesday against the division-leading Brewers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. CDT with RHP Ben Brown on the bump for the Cubbies. RHP Freddy Peralta poses a big test on Tuesday, but the offense will need to find a way to answer against the Brewers’ lone ace.
