According to reports, a Kansas City Chiefs player is being charged with animal abuse. The report was released on Wednesday, just hours after it was revealed that wide receiver Rashee Rice’s civil trial date for his high-speed crash in late March had been updated.
The offseason hasn’t been quiet for the Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs have been in the offseason. Rice is addressing crash-related legal matters. Kicker Harrison Butker gained notoriety for his divisive remarks during a commencement speech. Wanya Morris and Chukwuebuka Godrick, two more players, were taken into custody early in May on suspicion of possessing marijuana.
Isaiah Buggs is accused of alleged animal cruelty
Per Ryan Phillips of Tuscaloosa Patch, Biggs, a former Alabama football standout, is being accused of animal cruelty per civil documents filed in a Tuscaloosa court. Biggs is expected to face misdemeanor criminal charges related to the case relating to the alleged treatment of two dogs being left on the back porch of a residence.
Per the report, police found the dogs in poor condition:
The petition goes on to say that when TPD and the City of Tuscaloosa’s Animal Control officers arrived, they found a grey and white pitbull on the screened-in back porch surrounded in feces, with no access to food or water.
What’s more, those responding reported finding a black Rottweiler mix locked in a metal cage in direct sunlight with no access to food or water.
The petition said the dogs were seized on March 28 due to both being severely “malnourished, emaciated and neglected.”
One of the dogs was later euthanized
Per the report, the Pitbull was euthanized in April after becoming “aggressive” and failing a heartworm treatment. The Rottweiler mix arrived at the shelter at a “dangerously low weight” and tested positive for Parvo. The Rottweiler is still at the shelter.
Buggs signed with the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad in January. He signed a reserve/futures deal with the team in February. Buggs was a full-time starter for the Detroit Lions in the 2022 season. He started in three games for Lions last season before they released him.
