Just In : Tyus Jones will address the primary issue facing the Suns

Since acquiring Bradley Beal in the summer of last year, the Phoenix Suns have been without a true point guard. Throughout the season, Frank Vogel was forced to rely on Devin Booker and Beal’s playwriting in the absence of a proven playwright.

The Suns eventually lost the playoffs as a result of the inconsistent outcomes. But with the acquisition of Tyus Jones, Phoenix has finally taken care of that problem. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the seasoned guard on Saturday agreed to a one-year contract worth $3.3 million.

Jones will probably be inserted right away into Mike Budenholzer’s starting lineup. Booker and Beal can work off-ball, creating more space and acting as interested screeners, by taking the bulk of the on-ball creation off of their shoulders.

That small adjustment to the rotation might be the key to unleashing Phoenix’s unrivalled firepower. The Suns still have a dubious defence, though, and they need to show that they can stop elite teams. If not, it will still be challenging to accept them as a serious competitor. An exceptional offence is only as good as the defence upon which it is based, after all.
