The Yankees opt to DFA a seasoned power batter who is underperforming

J.D. Davis, an infielder for the New York Yankees, has been designated for assignment, the team announced on Sunday. Davis was only recently acquired by the Yankees in a deal with the Oakland Athletics last month, so this move essentially ends his time with the team.

The 31-year-old right-hander Davis had a fantastic season in 2019 while playing for the rival New York Mets, batting.307 with 22 home runs and 57 RBIs. Davis has had a completely different season in 2024, despite having a strong 18-homer, 69-RBI season with the San Francisco Giants the previous season. In 39 games with Oakland, he batted.236 before being sent to the Yankees. After that, Davis stunk to the highest levels in the pinstripes, batting just.105 in his 22 plate appearances.
