Should Eagles sign Chiefs star cornerback?

The Philadelphia Eagles’ contract structure may prevent them from moving on from both of their top cornerbacks this offseason, but James Bradberry has definitely hit a wall in 2023, and Darius Slay is entering his age-33 season after an injury-riddled fourth year in Midnight Green.

So cornerback is a short- and long-term issue that Eagles general manager Howie Roseman must address this offseason. The assumption here is that Slay returns, while the Eagles bite the bullet after Bradberry’s dismal season and accept the $15.238 million in dead cap space that would result from releasing him. Despite Kelee Ringo’s outstanding rookie season, the Eagles will be looking for a second starting cornerback this offseason.

To that end, Pro Football Focus has named one free agent that each team should target this offseason, connecting Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed with the Eagles.

“No Eagles cornerback received a PFF coverage grade of 70.0 or above in 2023. If the squad wants to return to contention following a dismal final stretch of the 2023 season, they will need to spend in the position again,” PFF noted. “Sneed would make a huge impact in that regard. He is a capable, physical cornerback who can play either inside or outside, receiving PFF coverage grades of 70.0 or above in three of his four NFL seasons.

Sneed, a fourth-round choice out of Louisiana Tech in 2020, has emerged as one of Steve Spagnuolo’s most productive defensive players. Sneed led the Chiefs with 78 total tackles, five tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery in his 26th season.
