One of Nick Sirianni’s coordinators won’t be as fortunate, even though it looks like he made it out alive.
Sean Desai, the defensive coordinator for the Eagles, was fired, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network on Sunday. Desai will now be considered for DC employment elsewhere, according to Rapoport.
For Desai, who took over as Philadelphia’s DC less than a year ago after Jonathan Gannon was fired, the writing may have been on the wall. Before Week 15, the team discreetly demoted him, allowing defensive assistant Matt Patricia to assume play calling duties through the remainder of the season.
Then came a story that claimed Desai was having problems persuading the players to follow his plans.
To be sure, the Eagles’ performance in the wild-card round versus Tampa Bay after demoting Desai was not much better, as they lost three of their final four games to end the regular season.
But it appears that someone had to absorb the fallout because everything seems to be pointing to Philly keeping Sirianni as their head coach.
