Kyle Shanahan of the 49ers shares an update on Deebo Samuel’s injury

Deebo Samuel, the San Francisco 49ers’ wide receiver, exited his team’s Divisional Round playoff win against the Green Bay Packers with a shoulder injury, and head coach Kyle Shanahan provided an update on his status on Monday.

While Shanahan stated that X-rays on Samuel’s injured shoulder were negative, he added that Samuel was in a lot of pain and that he won’t know whether or not the star wide receiver will be able to play against the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship Game until Wednesday (via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk).

Samuel logged two catches for 24 yards against the Packers before departing.

Overall, the versatile receiver collected 60 passes for 892 yards and seven touchdowns this season, in addition to rushing for 225 yards and five scores.

The 49ers selected the 28-year-old, who played collegiate football at the University of South Carolina, in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

During his debut season, he appeared in 15 games and had an amazing 57 catches for 802 yards and three touchdowns. He also scored three touchdowns as a rusher.

Samuel was only able to play in seven games the following year due to injuries, but in 2021, he burst out, catching 77 passes for 1,405 yards and six touchdowns. He also had 365 yards and eight touchdowns on the rush.

Samuel has not replicated his 2021 success since, but he remains an important and dynamic member of San Francisco’s offence.

If the Niners are forced to face the Lions without Deebo Samuel next Sunday, their challenge will undoubtedly become much more tough.
