The South Sydney child who collapsed during training this week, Leon Te Hau, had a cardiac abnormality that has been discovered by medical professionals.

The former Queensland under-18 player passed out following a training session at Souths’ Heffron Park headquarters on Wednesday, prompting an ambulance ride to the hospital.

He is still being tested by doctors, but the early diagnosis isn’t as dire as it seems. He stays in the hospital. When he pushes himself during training and sports, his heart has a relatively slight abnormality that causes it to beat too slowly and not pump enough blood through his body, Te Hau’s manager Gavin Orr told Wide World of Sports.

“It can perhaps be resolved with simple medication, as it has been experienced by a few sportsmen in the past.

The doctors say he will be released from hospital on Saturday and we are hoping he is back training and playing again in a couple of weeks.

“It gave everyone a scare but he is on the mend.”
