For the second consecutive year, the Miami Dolphins will not have a selection in this week’s NFL Draft.
The Dolphins lost their No. 23 pick in 2023 and their third-round pick in 2024 when it was determined that they had tampered with quarterback Tom Brady, who was then with the New England Patriots and a seven-time Super Bowl champion.
In an August 2022 statement, the NFL stated, “The Dolphins had impermissible communications with quarterback Tom Brady in 2019–20, while he was under contract to the New England Patriots.” “Those conversations started in August of 2019 and carried on all through the 2019 season and playoffs.
“These numerous and detailed discussions were conducted by [several] Dolphins executives informed [of] discussions with Mr. Brady.”

In addition to the team’s draft-related fines, Miami’s management office also faced harsh individual penalties. Vice Chairman Bruce Beal was hit with a $500,000 fine and was prohibited from attending league committee meetings for a year, while owner Stephen Ross was penalized $1.5 million and was not allowed to enter the Dolphins’ practice facility.
Former head coach Brian Flores filed a formal complaint with the NFL, accusing the team of pressing him to purposefully lose more games during his time. This complaint sparked the NFL’s inquiry into the Dolphins. The league discovered the Dolphins’ intention to completely overhaul their squad but found no proof of this within the Miami executive office.
