Major Christian McCaffrey Injury Update Received by 49ers

Due to a calf ailment, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey has been limited in practice; however, on Tuesday, he participated fully in drills, as reported by Matt Barrows of The Athletic.

It should come as no surprise that McCaffrey will be fit to play this Saturday when the 49ers meet the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

Due to a calf injury sustained during his team’s Week 17 victory over the Washington Commanders, McCaffrey was unable to play in San Francisco’s regular-season finale.

This season, McCaffrey led the NFL in rushing yards (1,459) and scored 14 touchdowns on the ground in 16 games. In addition to hauling in 67 receptions for 564 yards and seven touchdowns, he averaged a strong 5.4 yards per carry. His accomplishments were recognised with a Pro Bowl selection and First-Team All-Pro recognition.

The 27-year-old was originally chosen by the Carolina Panthers with the eighth overall choice of the 2017 NFL Draft. He played NCAA football at Stanford.

He played for the Panthers for the first five and a half seasons of his career, going to the Pro Bowl once and being selected to the First Team All-Pro. 2019 was his greatest season as a rusher, accumulating 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns on 4.8 yards per attempt. He also hauled in 116 catches for 1,005 yards and four touchdowns.

Midway through the previous season, McCaffrey was traded by Carolina. With the Panthers and Niners, the Castle Rock, Colorado native accumulated 1,139 yards and eight touchdowns in 16 games. As a receiver, he also caught 85 passes for 741 yards and made five trips to the end zone.

This season, Christian McCaffrey and the 49ers finished 12-5 and were awarded a first-round bye.
