EXCLUSIVE:Lockyer Dismisses ‘Premature’ Talks Of Sam Walker’s Potential Move To Broncos

Premature’ rumors of Sam Walker possibly joining the Broncos are rejected by Lockyer

The legendary player from Queensland, Darren Lockyer, says any talk about Sam Walker perhaps returning home to Brisbane is “premature” and that he has “pretty much his whole career” at the Roosters. Walker is currently under contract with the Roosters till the end of 2025. He was a star player during the Roosters’ 60-18 victory over the Dragons on Anzac Day. Given that veteran Broncos playmaker Adam Reynolds a free agent at the same time, Brisbane management may be inclined to pursue the younger Queensland-born halfback.

The 21-year-old joined the Roosters in 2019 after going through the Broncos’ youth system. When the time comes to replace Reynolds in the halves, the Broncos have depth and good choices thanks to the 24-year-old Jock Madden, who is under contract through the end of 2026. Lockyer, a Broncos board member, also mentioned the young academy standout Coby Black’s potential.

Lockyer expressed his opinion about the Walker rumors on Wide World of Sports’ QLDER, saying “I think it’s a bit premature.” “There is a person akin to Jock Madden there—Coby Black is entering the system. Therefore, I believe that the Broncos are content with the current situation. “Those two players I named behind Adam have a lot of faith in them. Ezra Mam, the other player, may also finish in the No. 7 spot. “So I think we are comfortable there.”

It’s difficult to imagine the Roosters letting their halfback go on the market come November 1st, according to league icon Wally Lewis, given that standout five-eighth Luke Keary will retire at the end of this season.
