One San Francisco 49ers veteran is not ready for this to be his final dance.
Speaking with Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle this week, Niners tackle Trent Williams denied rumours that he could retire after the season.
“Oh, yeah,” Williams replied when asked if he will return in 2024. “One hundred percent.”
“I want to break the record for [most Pro Bowl selections for] tackles,” Williams told reporters. “That’s a big thing for me.”
Williams, 35, has been a rock on the Niners’ left side of the line for the past four seasons. He is still one of the top players at his position, having made three consecutive First Team All-Pro selections in San Francisco.
Williams has also been selected to the Pro Bowl in every season with the Niners, for a total of 11 in his career. As he mentioned, that is one from the all-time record of 12 Pro Bowls for an offensive lineman, presently shared by Jonathan Ogden, Anthony Muñoz, and Willie Roaf.
San Francisco is favoured to come out of the NFC this year, especially since that opponents such as Dallas and Philadelphia have already been eliminated.
This has sparked speculation that Williams, a 13-year veteran, may retire at the end of the season. Williams is putting all of that behind him before the Niners’ playoff game on Saturday, which means we can expect more nasty pancakes from him for at least another season.
