As the Origin star is closer to leaving the Titans, the Panthers are searching for Fifita.

David Fifita’s unexpected choice to join Penrith has surfaced as the Maroons front is only a few days away from the deadline in his lucrative Titans contract to activate a get-out provision. The devastating forward for the Maroons is under contract with the Gold Coast until the end of 2026, but if he does not exercise the option in his contract for the following season by the start of Round 10 on Thursday night, he will become a free agent.

The Sydney Morning Herald was the first to reveal Fifita’s Sunday flight to Sydney, where he met with coach Ivan Cleary. Football chief executive Matt Cameron stated that the club was eager to add more forwards to their lineup after James Fisher-Harris’ unexpected departure at the end of the season.

If I didn’t look into every avenue the club has going forward, I wouldn’t be performing my job correctly, Cameron stated.

It would be negligent of us to overlook David if his services are available for the 2025 campaign. After receiving an early release from Penrith, Fisher-Harris joined the Warriors, freeing up over $1 million in the team’s pay budget. The three-time champions may also be interested in Wests Tigers prop Stefano Utoikamanu.

Following this season, Jarome Luai and Sunia Turuva will both be departing from Penrith, having accepted substantial offers from the Wests Tigers. When Fifita is at his best, he is regarded as one of the NRL’s greatest forwards, but since moving from Brisbane to the Gold Coast in 2021, his tenure has been dotted by injuries and slumps in play.
